the age group that listens to 2FM (or dosent !!) - gets most of their content from th regionals from social media. So with that in mind. Bin 2FM ! and use the frequency allocation to cater for an audience that actually WILL listen to radio . Put GOLD on the 2 FM channels, pull Mary off Lyric, get Will Leahy on Drive from Limerick, maybe Lorcan Murray as well ! It would be better that whats going on. and OH YEAH !!! let Dan Healy NOWHERE NEAR IT !
Hey Rob, I would say that all of the regionals are now owned by Bauer, and I don't think RTE should withdraw from that market segment.
I'd also say with my Classic Hits hat on, that the market doesn't necessarily need another oldies station, that wouldn't have a lot of public service value.
Point taken Liam, but RTE needs to behave like a business now. And given that they have failed at that market segment, and Bauer simply own it. I feel it would be a pragmatic business decision to bin it and move on. Classic Hits is a multi city licence and is not receivable north of a line from Dublin to Galway. There is a rural audience that listen to radio as demonstrated by the recent JNLR figures, that advertisers want to reach. Advertisers presently reach the younger age group via social channels and the ABC1s via Radio 1 as well as the locals, but I feel there is a massive hole that needs to be plugged, and RTÉ has a vehicle that not only could fill that gap , but also start bringing in money. After all , when was the last time 2FM made money ? (sorry that is a loaded question lol)
